A rattlesnake's rattle
Filled my hands with lead,
Melancholy's favourite girlfriend,
Because of her all day
I keep silent as a tuna.
I'm going to eat a lot
tonight,
I'll put on the brighter
rags of madness,
I'll toss my affairs
far into the stove,
I'll open the window wider,
Because in yellow, long since,
It's been blinking at me in time
With the Night — the traffic light
Of the Full Moon.
First I'll notice the stars'
grapeshot in the sky,
I'll feel the nearness
of the northern lights,
But how beautiful is
the midnight speech!
I think I'll take a walk along the ledge
And the branches of the neighbouring tree…
