Kakitsubata — What kind of beast are you? Lightning-quick, Steeped in thunderstorm from head to toe! Why do you climb into souls? To plant doubt one more time, While breaking your own vow three times a day, To beat the alarm bell in a frenzy, To try to tear their ears open, To teach them to listen with their eyes! Not to try to cover up your rabid mood And to romp your fill With a young but grey-haired head. And afterwards to dissolve into the sea as bright paint. An era of change, You'll know no peace. Your eclipse isn't far off. But across the scorched earth You'll walk, like a bay horse, Chasing it down with old, outlived tablets of the law. And you'll become, absurd as you are, Yet for some reason close and dear.
