The trees stood in a queue —
MMXXV
The trees
stood
in a queue —
to drop
their leaves —
obediently
to freeze
in the autumn,
to stop
grabbing
air —
To halt.
To set stiff
from the cold,
casting
dead
shadows,
To shut themselves off
From nature,
From themselves,
From life
In their own
mute
sloth.
Some
will wake
different —
the sun will
wake them
by name;
But there will be
those whose choice is
to sleep forever.
To renounce,
to stay
for ever
in their own
old
time.
