MMXXVI

Darkness

god · spirit shin / kami The fear and the sky of this poem call for a sign of the divine, not the churchly.
What did the Aztecs sing when their dancing God was dying? They burned in the light, dropped mountains, drank rivers, with stone smashed teeth on the Horizon. And I since childhood feared to ask at the pharmacy why there is on my soul a snowdrift. One shaman through a familiar therapist prescribed vitamins that themselves after midnight climbed into my mouth. Anxiety grew, the Aztecs kept singing at a volume where current cuts the hearing — steeped in the voice the air could not feel its feet — And then He woke. And became Everything Around — having drunk time, fallen from Earth into the boggy Sky — My Dancing God.
